It’s what we all wish we had more of, or at least I do. I find myself trying to make good use of every second of my day. Sometimes it works and sometimes, well it just doesn’t. However, over the years I have found some time management tips that work well and I want to share them with you.

1. Keep a Running Calendar

You should have a running calendar that records appointments, deadlines, meetings, etc. As you schedule these events, make it a point to write them on your calendar. Keep your calendar with you all the time. Whether you have a written calendar or perhaps a calendar app on your Smartphone is up to you. The important thing is that you use it.

2. Spend the first 10-15 minutes of your day planning your day

Before you do anything else, spend at least ten minutes of your day planning your day. Write down what you need to accomplish (check your calendar) and what you want to accomplish. Allot time slots for tasks that you need to complete. When you plan your day according to tasks and events, you will be much more productive.

3. Block Out Distractions

Sometimes it is easy to become distracted by social media, emails, or phone calls. While some of these things are essential to your work, other times they are just distractions. When you are working, log off of your social media pages. Disconnect your phone during times that you need to focus and don’t worry about your email. It will all be there when you come back to it.

4. Take Breaks When You Need Them

Some people think that when they start working on a task, that they should not stop until it is completed. While this sounds good in theory, many times this type of mentality just causes burn out. Schedule breaks within your day and you will actually accomplish more in the long run.

5. Delegate

Delegating tasks is one of the best things you can do for your business. Don’t feel the need to do everything on your own. If you can delegate tasks to others, then do it. Take a look at your to-do list and pass on tasks to others. This will help you both.

Time management is an important element in your day-to-day life. What are some of your best time management tips?
